A Paradox Total War Game Might be Close
3,890Are there signs that Paradox will finally challenge Creative Assembly's Total War series? It's no secret that Total War as a series has pretty much held a and still holds a monopoly on the massive historical battles with campaign genre, and that it has done so for 20 years now. With the turmoil surrounding the series, it seems only fitting that other developers should try their hand at making a similar game in this neglected genre, and perhaps the most fitting developer to do so, has to be Paradox Development Studios.
Paradox seems to have the financial muscle and the passion for historical grand strategy games, which might just be what it takes to go up against Creative Assembly. But is this just wishful thinking, or might it actually happen? Well, there are signs that Paradox might try their hand at a Total War-like title, and that's what I'm discussing in this video.
Paradox has now offered games spanning virtually the entirety of the past 2000 years of European and partly world history, and is in no hurry to stop. Their games are deep and complex, and often what Total War modders aspire to emulate with their mods. In addition, we can clearly see that Paradox are slowly but surely investing in titles and series outside of their own grand strategy genre like Crusader Kings 4, EU4, Hearts of Iron IV and Victoria 3 - just look at Cities Skylines, Age of Wonders and now Millennia, all games that dive into various other branches of the strategy genre. This can get exciting, and I can't help but wonder - and speculate - whether Paradox might just be working at a Total War competitor as we speak, or if they're planning to do so.
