"Asterix & Obelix" for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is an action-adventure game released in 1995, based on the French comic series created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. Players assume the roles of the titular Gaulish heroes, Asterix and Obelix, as they embark on a quest to rescue their fellow villagers from the clutches of the Roman Empire.

Players traverse a variety of levels, ranging from lush forests to bustling Roman cities. Along the way, they must defeat waves of enemies. Items and points are scattered throughout the stages, typical of platforming games. After completing nearly every other level, players are treated to bonus stages, ranging from rugby matches to Olympic-style races.

For the first time in a console Astérix game, players can enjoy simultaneous two-player action. The playable characters of Asterix and Obelix differ mainly in size and speed of movement and attacks, with no distinct individual skills between them. The game features impressive 2D graphics, which is vibrant and colorful and faithfully capture the art style of the comics. The characters are well animated, and the game world is filled with charming details that bring the Gaulish village and its surroundings to life.

While bonus stages and special events offers a welcome change of pace from the main action, they largely rely on the same mechanics as the standard stages. While some may require quick button mashing or different controls, the core gameplay of jumping and punching remains consistent. While these bonus stages are competently executed and add variety to the game, they ultimately fail to provide enough unique content to prevent the overall experience from feeling somewhat repetitive.
