Review:
An episodic adventure game set in an alternate version of the 50's that will appeal to Telltale games fans. You play as Elliot Ness, former leader of the famous Untouchables and search for... Al Capone's grand daughter, who has been kidnapped. Game plays almost exactly like The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones - you interact with objects, make a lot of difficult choices and take part in some quick time events (and even shootouts). You may feel the low budget from time to time, but apart from that, the game is top notch.
First of all it has a fantastic atmosphere - you are not sure if everything is happening for real, or if it is some kind of delirious dream. In this alternate reality, the famous Hindenburg zeppelin has been turned into a hotel floating above the city of Santa Esperanza (by a guy named... A. Ryan; Bioshock, anyone?), hight tech submarines are stationed in the docks and gruesome murders are being commited by a cultist of an extraordinary strength, who is able to torn victims arms with his bare hands. There is also a case of missing children, that have been abducted by a strange sect, whos members are wearing bird-like masks. Story looks very promising and dense.
The graphics are nice as well - developers now how to operate lightning, depth of field and colors to create something unique and intriguing. Voice overs are ok as well - the performance of two main characters is really good and pleasant to hear. Music is awesome, though it has almost nothing in common with blues.
The first episode lasts for about two hours and features several choices that will have consequences in the future. You can buy it on for 5$/€ and it's totally worth it. If you like it, get the rest of the episodes without paying twice for the first one, as there is Episodes 2-5 pack available on Steam as well.
Developer's description:
Eliot Ness, the former leader of the legendary Untouchables, wished only to spend the rest of his days working in his diner, not dwelling too much on the cesspit of corruption his city, Santa Esperanza, had degenerated into.
But things rarely go as planned.
When children suddenly start to disappear and the police just simply a blind eye, Eliot decides to take the law into his own hands, track down the culprit and bring him to justice by any means necessary, even if he has to abandon his dreams of a peaceful life and again get embroiled in shootouts with the usual array of assassins and hoodlums.
Helped by various characters from some unexpected places, the player must guide Eliot through the increasingly morbid and decadent scenarios searching for clues to solve the cases in the five episodes of this season's Blues and Bullets.
