ART DESIGN, GRAPHICS, and MUSIC (4/5):
• Player Sprite Work: (5/5): Possibly the best and most unique character sprite change in the genre.
• Enemy Sprite Work: (4.5/5): Excellent
• Boss Sprite Work: (4/5) Great Sprite work, though some bosses could use a little more color.
• Backgrounds: (3/5) Many stages have no background at all, or simply repeat. Some however are quite nice, most noticeable the level 2 chess scenes.
GAME PLAY AND LEVEL DESIGN (4/5):
• FLOW CHANNEL: (4/5): Generally the level design and boss choices are great. However, level 5 feels slow after the first couple screens and doesn't have the tension as the rest of the romhack. Seeing Death as the end boss felt a little disappointing after facing Olrox with two forms.
• FEEDBACK AND REWARDS: (4.5/5): Meat is available in good location and there are a variety sub-weapons, some of which are available in case of losing to a boss.
• CORE MECHANICS: (4/5): Adding Laurels to the game makes it more accessible to newer players of the series. It may have been better to have no random items at all instead of just the rosary as they show up sometimes all too frequently.
OVERALL SCORE (4): Incredibly solid, and for being made in 2007, this one is still one of the best. Absolutely worth a play through if not more :)
