Only two things come from Texas, and I've got horns.

Pro NotShane Tips
- John Morris's main gimmick having two modes, a standard whip user mode very similar to Belmont family users, and a brawler mode where he uses hand to hand combat. In theory, you want to flow into both modes depending on what you need, where the latter has significantly more damage potential due to its very fast cooldowns. Unfortunately, due to how short any given CV character's limbs are, brawler mode is rather impractical except on very passive bosses.
- Follow actual lore, John takes a small amount of damage every time he uses the Vampire Killer for an attack. The damage is so miniscule that it won't affect much, it's just interesting to point out. He can also angle his whip at certain diagonal directions, which can come in handy.
- Being a Bloodlines character, has mechanics that more closely follow that game. He uses sub-weapons on a different button, for example, which will really screw up your muscle memory, let me tell you. Said subweapons happen to be the more limited Bloodlines set (Holy Water, Axe, Boomerang) with slightly different behaviour, though roughly the same functionality (i.e use Axe on flying enemies). This is still enough to provide the coverage he needs.
- John has the common Burning Mode (Y) that a lot of Belmont characters (like Simon) have. Unlike those characters, due to his more niche moveset he actually does get a lot of benefit out of using it. Also unlike other BMs, his does not deal Fire damage despite its name, as the more electric looking appearance will attest (I am unaware on whether it actually does electricity damage)
- Scorching Spin Slam (QCF + Y) is an alternative way to enter Burning mode with an attack attached in front of it.
- Powered-Up Vampire Killer (FF + A/C) is another common Belmont whip move which is just a stronger whip attack, usually used at the end of combos, or just for pinpoint timing strikes. Under Burning Mode this just does massive damage so it can be good to burst down a boss.
- Sucker Punch (QCF + A) sends John dashing forward to deliver a punch, which can be combo'd out of. This move probably makes more sense on a shortsword user, given that whip users weren't encouraged to stay a distance away from the enemy... however...
- ...it can be followed up by Flaming Hook (QCF + A again), which delivers another punch, and more importantly, is how you enter Brawler mode. However I don't use that mode much so...
- Surging Talon (QCF + C) is an uppercut move which... I probably forgot to actually use on purpose this video. It has invincibility so if you ever need upwards mobility this is the move to go to.
- Swooping Claw (QCF + A) is a flying kick that's essentially Sucker Punch, but only for Brawler mode.
- Whip Spin Slam (FF + C) does a spinning whip attack while in Brawler stance.
- Twisting Kick (QCF + Y) is a Brawler mode move that's mostly a combo starter at close range.
- As a Bloodlines character, John accesses his Level 2 Sub-weapon Attack through a special command (U, QCF + A/C), both the Axe and Boomerang versions are notable because they're very effective at killing fat/wide targets, like Cerebus and Gergoth.
- Whip Swing (HCF + A/C) is an invincible dash-in move with a very meme-y animation. It can be chained multiple times though HCF commands are really butt to do that with, but I can't really think of a time to do so.
- His Item Crash is Water Dragon, where he sends out a homing water project towards his enemy. It's the latter half of the IC that does the majority of the damage, and it does not have very good tracking. While easy to use against huger bosses, you will need to move yourself in a way that does not provoke sudden movements on the enemy end for certain bosses in order to use this effectively.
- John does a pretty brutal amount of damage overall so as you can see despite me typing out a whole bunch on his toolset I just play like a scrub
- Isn't it sadge both Bloodlines characters are canonically deado.
