Gangbusters (written Gang Busters in-game), known as Crazy Cop (クレむジーコップ KureijΔ« Koppu?) in Japan, is a top view action-shooter video game developed and published by Konami for arcade platforms in 1988.

The evil Dagrus mob have just held up the bank on Main Street and got away with $1,000,000.

With a sense of grim determination, officers Smith and Wesson set out to bring the dastardly gang to justice.

Gangbusters is a top-view shooter game. Players take the roles of officers Smith and Wesson, who must clean the streets of criminal members of the Dragus mob, who have just robbed the Main Street bank. The game can be played by one player or two players simultaneously. There are four levels in the game: the town, the harbor, the railway, and the final level, the Dagrus mob's base into the mountains.

The player starts with a simple pistol with infinite ammo and can also acquire up to three bombs along the way. They can increase their firepower by arresting certain enemies colored in red. Upgraded weapons are stronger, have longer and wider reach, greater speed, and can pierce through enemies, allowing the player to eliminate many enemies at once; however, they have limited ammo (represented by a line of bullets on the player's HUD), so the player should use them moderately. Bombs (shaped as missile heads) produce a big explosion that covers a large area, eliminating all enemies inside its blast radius.

A few mobsters wearing red suits can frequently be found along the levels; when shot, they'll surrender and drop to their knees with their hands up. The player can then approach them to arrest them, receiving a power-up in return. Arrested enemies will then follow the player tied by a rope, but won't intervene in gameplay in any way. Police vans can also be frequently found along the levels, where the player can deposit their prisoners to be taken away to jail ("Book him!"), being awarded a bomb for every enemy booked. Additionally, putting prisoners in the car functions as a sort of smart bomb, clearing all current enemies on the screen.

Some levels count with multiple battlefield planes which can be reached by performing certain actions. For example, while the player is fighting on the street, enemies may appear attacking from the rooftop of an adjacent building; the player can walk inside the entrance of that building to climb up to the rooftop as well and fight them there.

At the end of each stage, the player will have to fend off a large gauntlet of enemies, with gangsters and other projectiles coming from all directions. Once all lesser enemies have been defeated, a couple of stronger boss-like enemies will appear, dressed as soldiers and carrying machine guns. Defeating them marks the end of that stage.
