DJay 95 Plays: Battle Garegga (Arcade) Longplay (1/2)
3Hey players, DJay here with a new shmup longplay on one of the few difficult shooters of the 90's, Battle Garegga. This longplay is divided into 2 parts.
Description of the game:
Battle Garegga is a vertical scrolling bullet hell shmup by Eighting/Raizing released in arcades in February 1996. It received a home port on the Sega Saturn in 1998 by Electronic Arts and a re-release on PS4 and XBOX ONE in 2016 under the name of Battle Garegga Revision 2016 with a few new featues. The player ships would later appear again in 1998 Armed Police Batrider as playable fighters and again in Dariusburst Chronicle Saviors (Only the Wind Snail).
Mathew Wayne, one of the few residents in a small country town, is a mechanical genius, having his aptitude and skills passed down to 2 of his sons, Brian and Jason Wayne. As time went by, they took leadership of the automobile industry and suddenly were approached by a militaristic state known as Federation with a profitable contract to help produce military vehicles for them, to which the brothers agreed. However, it was a matter of time until the brothers realized that Federation were just using their weapons and vehicles to destroy their home town. As such, Brian and Jason Wayne set out to foil their evil plans by using the aircraft that were not submitted by them and save their home town from being destroyed.
Gameplay is similar to other vertical scrolling shmups, except with a few features to make it stand out from them. Players control 1 of 4 fighters (4 hidden fighters from 1993 Mahou Daisakusen/Sorcer Striker as well who are accessible via inputting cheats) and take on 7 challenging stages. In this game, players obtain power-ups such as shot upgrades, bombers and options. This is not very easy as the game involves a ranking system which is adjustable depending on the player's actions. If a player destroys enemies or collects several items, the difficulty will increase. The only way to decrease it is by dying. Therefore, it is required that players should manage to keep themselves powered down so that enemies become less aggressive. It is possible to clear it with one life, as long as the player has knowledge of how the ranking works and an ultra-prudent playstyle.
