Messing around in 3D Studio R4: 2D Shaper, Lofter, and 90's-style Raytracing

I was originally going to make and upload this back when I uploaded the first video of messing around in this DOS-era 3D Studio, but didn't get around to it.
You can see a few annoying limitations the software had here-and-there. Nothing major, but they don't make any sense. And weren't there algorithms back then that allowed for raytraced soft shadows? No matter how large the falloff of a given light, raytraced shadows always appeared razor-sharp as if the sun hit the objects.
