Pac-Man - For Those With an Appetite for Dots | 1999 | Neo Geo Pocket Color
Pac-Man, originally called Puck Man in Japan, is a 1980 maze action video game developed and released by Namco for arcades. Pac-Man was a widespread critical and commercial success, leading to several sequels, merchandise, and two television series. The game remains one of the highest-grossing and best-selling games. Namco and SNK co-published a port for the Neo Geo Pocket Color, which came with a circular "Cross Ring" that attached to the d-pad to restrict it to four-directional movement, because the joystick on this portable unit doesn't respond extremely well on sharp turns, which can be the kiss of death when you're being chased by those pesky ghosts Pinky, Inky, Blinky, or Clyde. Besides that te gameplay takes place in full-screen or scroll modes.
GAME RECORDING INFO:
The game was emulated at Retroarch. It was integer scaled to 4k, without bi-linear filtering, and retaining the original aspect ratio (display aspect ratio, not internal resolution). And captured using shader / filter that simulates the original screen of the hardware. I also created an image of the handheld to use as a bezel above the game, to create a nostalgic atmosphere.
