"Paranormal Activity 4" (2012) directed by Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman is way too identical to it's predecessor to give any amount of credit to. It's the first film in this series I actively did not like and would avoid watching again.

It has been 5 years since Katie (Katie Featherston) has gone missing. 15 year old Alex (Kathryn Newton) and her family take in a creepy child named Robbie (Brady Allen) when his mother has to go to the hospital for a few days and has nowhere to stay. Alex has her boyfriend Ben (Matt Shively) set up cameras around the house when strange things start happening. Robbie has the same invisible friend from the previous film named Toby, who continues to be up to no good.

This film was actually quite annoying because the one and only unique thing it does is the Xbox Kinect, which is honestly not even that cool or special. Otherwise it's a complete retread one for one of the previous film, including every major story beat and the ending. We are now four movies in and we still have barely any idea what is going on. I assume it's some sort of satanic cult but this is never confirmed and it's starting to get frustrating as a viewer who is dedicated enough to watch multiple low budget films of the same concept over and over again.

These were my least favorite characters yet (Other than Micah who is a special kind of bad). The two leads at the time of recording this were 15 and 21 years old, and yet they were supposed to be a convincing high school teenaged relationship. Carrying Toby over for continuity could have worked out but it ended up being pointless and just as ambiguous and shadowy as the previous film, meaning there is no development whatsoever and he might as well be any different spirit / entity. The one good thing I can say about the film is that I continue to adore the found footage style, and it's very cool how these films' characters come off as real people instead of fictional roles.

This movie was not good and was the first in this series to annoy me. I highly doubt it gets any better from here but you never know.
