INTRODUCTION:
While the Sultan of Persia is fighting a war in a foreign country, his Grand Vizier Jaffar orchestrates a coup d'état. His way to the throne lies through the Sultan's lovely daughter. Jaffar kidnaps her and threatens to kill her if she refuses to marry him. Meanwhile, the man the Princess loves is thrown into the dungeon. He has only one hour to escape from his prison, defeat the guards on his way, and stop Jaffar before the terrible marriage takes place.

REVIEW:
The game starts with you being thrown into the prison, and from now on you have one hour to complete the game, before the marriage takes place, and it will be too late. You have unlimited lives but when you die you have to start from the beginning of the level again, wasting precious time…

The first thing you have to do is to find a sword so you can defeat the guards. Besides the sword that is located on level 1, and that you need to find to get to level 2, there is no more weapons but only elixirs to collect. There is three different elixirs; one that restores lost health, one that is poisonous and makes health bar go down, and one that increases your health bar.

Prince of Percia is originally an Apple II game from 1989, and this game became extremely well known and popular because of the ground breaking animations of the character you control. The ZX Spectrum version is based on the Amiga version.

There is 12 levels where you have to find your way through the dungeons, battle guards, activate secret switches to open gates and doors, find secret passages, and much more.

As you proceed you will see some sequences from the chamber where the princess is, and some of this will have effect on the gameplay. You will also meet yourself a couple of times, and there will be a final confrontation on level 12, before you have to battle the evil Jaffar.

The main structure of the dungeons is identical to the Amiga version, but some of the secret passages is missing, and some of the scenery may also differ a bit from the Amiga version, but all the levels are there, though, level 10 and 11 has been swapped.

The animations, the swordfights, and the handling and controls is really good in this game. Prince of Percia has been released for almost all other systems, and it is definitely also worth checking out this unofficial version for the ZX Spectrum.

The game was published by Magic Soft in 1996.
