Hell Yeah, this is where it's at. Both with Quake and SoftGPU. This game owns. Very frustrating, but very awesome at the same time. Note, you will die multiple times, and with Unreal, look super awesome while seeing your own body parts flying across the screen. Of course, Q3 was best known for both its multiplayer support, along with all the various games that would eventually make use of the Q3 engine, like Alien Arena, Open Arena, Nexuiz, Urban Terror, and others with names that I don't remember off the top of my head. Q3A legacy, along with UT99 and Half-Life, will be forever cemented as one of the big FPS's, and for good reason too. It's never a dual moment with Q3A!

Q3A doesn't have any issue running under SoftGPU. The game's performance is really good. Not a surprise for a 1999 game that was designed for its contemporaries, but now running under a virtualized system that has a Ryzen 5 5500 host running at 4.2GHz, much powerful than any rig from that time.

The original VM that I had the game installed came from Archive.org, special thanks to Joel Lagace for the work that he invested into building this VM. However, I had horrible audio stuttering issues with the SB16. However, I changed the device to an AC'97, installed the Win98 drivers, and after a restart, all the audio issues went away, and Half-Life never ran better! This VM is still highly recommended though. Here is the download link for those interested:

VirtualBox 7.0 is virtualizing a multimedia gaming configuration with a single CPU core allocated to it (host is an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 6-Core Processor Running at 4.2HGHz), 512MB's of RAM, a VESA 1.2 Compatible Display Adapter with 3D Acceleration enabled via Passthrough with SoftGPU. An AC'97 Intel 82801AA Audio Device is installed with the appropriate drivers. Also installed is an AMD PCnet NIC. Windows 98SE is installed in the VM.
