Disclaimer: It seems like there is echo in the recording, I'm aware of that. Really sorry about that!

"Shoot 'Em All!" resumes at 8 PM EST with Radiant Silvergun, Treasure's masterpiece!

In this video, I complete the game twice on original Saturn hardware. The first playthrough is on Saturn mode. I did play on Very Easy, but the point was to show the bosses and ending. On the Arcade mode playthrough, I switched to Normal to show the difference between a few enemy and boss patterns. Overall, the runs went pretty well, but they're no high scores hehe! Thanks for watching!

Radiant Silvergun is my favorite Treasure game. Some games feel more like experiences than others, this is one of them in my book. Treasure's first entry into the shoot 'em up genre proved that shooters can be more than just "hold a button to win!" This game is a marvel of game design and is easily considered as one of the best shooting games ever created!

Pilot the Silvergun ship equipped with 7 different weapons, including the Radiant Sword! Knowing which weapon to use at the right time is the key to victory! In this game, your weapons level up the more score you have, so it is essential to understand the scoring mechanics. There are three types of colored enemies: red, blue or yellow. If you destroy three enemies of the same color type, your chain increases. Keep destroying enemies of the same color type and increase your chain multiplier up to a maximum of 100000! This also means that you cannot destroy everything in your path and you must pace your shots. This might seem contradictory to what other shooters have taught us in the past, which is to usually shoot everything in sight! Consider Radiant Silvergun more of a puzzle game than an actual shooter. This does not mean that the game is not difficult, on the contrary! Lots of bullets appear on screen and it can get chaotic really fast! This is why your ship is equipped with the Radiant Sword, which can absorb purple bullets and fills up a bar. When the bar is full, you can unleash a devastating attack that clears a good portion of the screen. You're also invulnerable during the attack. It kind of acts like a full-screen bomb. The pacing of the game is slower than other shooters, with playthroughs that usually clock around the 45 minutes mark, but that's because the game is filled with bosses! Defeat all their parts to gain maximum score! There is also a whole level that is actually one whole boss!

The reason why this game is in another ballpark compared to other shooting games out there is that it relies heavily on memorization and perfect execution. You need to play well through the whole game in order to successfully take out the hardest bosses in the later parts of the game. A successful 1 credit clear run means that you need to maximize your chain multiplier at all times to have a high enough weapon power for the final boss. If you cannot succeed in doing so, you will have an extremely hard time defeating it as one of its patterns is extremely difficult to dodge and predict. Basically, the game tests you constantly.

Finally, the game has a surprisingly deep storyline that really gets to you in the end. I remember clearing it the first time and it broke my heart, but there's actually a great meaning behind it all. The music, composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto of Final Fantasy Tactics fame, is also a great aspect of the game.

Radiant Silvergun is an excellent game that excels at everything it tries to accomplish. You must play this at least once in your lifetime and I highly recommend you download the Xbox 360 / XONE version of the game if you can and experience this marvel of game design!
