Shadowgate is a point-and-click adventure title that originally premiered in black and white on the Apple McIntosh as part of the McVenture series by ICOM Simulations Inc in 1987. It was later ported in color, and with music by Kemco/Seika to the Nintendo Entertainment System between 1989 and 1991, depending on the territory.

We play as an unnamed hero, the last of the line of kings, who has been tasked with entering Castle Shadowgate to subdue the Warlock Lord who is in the process of summoning an ancient Behemoth that will decimate the world. Armed with nothing but our wits, we need to solve inventory based puzzles in order to arm ourselves to take out the various monsters and apparitions that haunt the dilapidated castle.
