Space Invaders | 1999 | Remake of a Classic Arcade Shooter! | Nintendo 64
Space Invaders is a 1978 shoot 'em up arcade video game developed and released by Taito in Japan, and licensed to Midway Manufacturing for overseas distribution. Space Invaders was the first fixed shooter and set the template for the genre. The goal is to defeat wave after wave of descending aliens with a horizontally moving laser to earn as many points as possible. Publisher Activision, never too shy to capitalize on a sure bet license, has already realized revamped updates to the Space Invaders franchise for both PlayStation and PC. And now the publisher is bringing the classic shooter to Nintendo 64 owners courtesy of developer Z-Axis (Thrasher: Skate & Destroy). Luckily, the simplistic 2D style that helped make the game such a hit 20 years ago has been preserved in full, with some significant updates to boot.
GAME RECORDING INFO:
The game was scaled to 4k, without bi-linear filtering, and retaining the original aspect ratio. I also use a shader / filter that simulates a CRT Monitor (More like the way we remembered, than, the way it really was), and to use as a overlay I've created a a 3d image of a game room with a TV from the 90s, to create a nostalgic atmosphere.
