2D Fighter Combat In a 3D RPG - How the “Tales of” Series Made It Work
So, I’d actually intended to use Vesperia footage here, both because I hadn’t used it as an example yet, and because it might have my favorite take on Free Running. Unfortunately, the only version I own is Switch which, while still pretty in gameplay, has atrocious capture quality with the system’s built in recording. Really need to break down and buy a capture card at some point…
Anyway, I’m certainly not complaining about another chance to showcase Abyss. Plus it is the game to introduce Free Run, so it still fits. Thought about doing Symphonia as well, as it’s their first 3D entry, but didn’t think I could squeeze both games into this one without it getting messy. Ah well.
Still, I don’t know if it’s so simple it’s obvious, or so simple it’s brilliant, but the path the series took allowed it to preserve a lot of the design feel it was known for while moving to 3D, which is something a LOT of series struggled with. So I figure it’s noteworthy either way.
That’s about all I got for this week, so I’ll leave it there. Thanks, as always, for your time! And till next time, take care out there.
