More than 400 personnel from 5th Battalion The Rifles have been presented with their operational medals by HRH The Countess of Wessex at their base in Paderborn.
It was the last medals parade in Germany for 20 Brigade soldiers who served on Op Herrick 15.
During their tour they handed back key locations in the Nahr-e Saraj South area to the Afghan security forces.
The Commander Land Forces, General Sir Nick Parker, praised soldiers for their hard work.
Their successes came at a price. Rifleman Sheldon Steel was on a foot patrol in Babaji in November last year when he was killed by an IED blast.
His mother, Wendy, was presented with the Elizabeth Cross to recognise her son's sacrifice.
