Super Mario’s long-awaited mobile debut is coming very soon: Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Run will be launching on December 15th for iOS devices. The game will feature three different modes, each of which you can try out for free. But in order to get the complete experience you’ll need to pay a one-time fee of $9.99. Nintendo says that the game will be available in 151 countries at launch, and will support multiple languages, including English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, and traditional Chinese. The game was first announced in September, when Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto appeared onstage at an Apple event. You can get an idea of how the new game plays in the just-launched trailer above.

Nintendo’s ‘Super Mario Run’ App Will Cost $10

Game will launch on iOS devices Dec. 15, Android at a later date
Nintendo Co. plans to launch its highly anticipated mobile app “Super Mario Run” on Dec. 15, charging $9.99 in the U.S. for people who want to play the full game.
Most mobile games are free to play and generate revenue by selling virtual goods designed to enhance the player’s experience. Mobile games are expected to reach $36.9 billion in global revenue this year, according to research firm Newzoo BV.
“Super Mario Run,” Nintendo’s first-ever smartphone app featuring one of its iconic characters, will be among the more costly games available when it launches. Prices typically are 99 cents or $1.99, though some games can cost upwards of $20. Some of the most popular paid games include Microsoft Corp.’s “Minecraft: Pocket Edition” and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.’s “Heads Up!”
Nintendo surprised fans and investors when it announced “Super Mario Run” -- a side-scrolling run-and-jump game familiar to Mario fans -- at an Apple Inc. iPhone event in September. On Tuesday, the company said parts of the game’s three playable modes will be free to try.

'Super Mario Run' Bucks The Free-To-Play Trend When It Launches This December
( http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2016/11/15/super-mario-run-bucks-the-free-to-play-trend-when-it-launches-this-december/#2a26f30e1ddc )
Nintendo is banking on their first premium mobile title being a smash hit and they’re bucking revenue trends in the process.
Super Mario Run, an infinite-runner style take on the Mario franchise, hops onto iOS devices on Dec. 15. While you can download the game for free and play a sample of what it has to offer, the game itself will cost $9.99.
That’s a hefty price-tag for a mobile title. On the other hand, unlike “freemium” games, it doesn’t have micro-transactions, gems, or ads. All that annoying crap that makes mobile games so unpleasant? A cool $10 bill takes care of that.
“The wait is almost over for a Super Mario game that can be played on mobile devices,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, who has a name that is simply far too perfect for his job. “Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Run brings a new take on the series’ beloved action-platforming gameplay to iPhone and iPad for the first time.”
While free-to-play has largely been deemed the only path to success on mobile, I’m not sure that’s true with a company like Nintendo. Perhaps more importantly, I don’ think Nintendo can afford to tarnish its brand by charging for micro-transactions in a Mario game.
