The BioShock collection includes newly remastered versions of the three titles in the BioShock video game series – BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite – alongside their single player content originally released as exclusives or downloadable content packs, including Minerva’s Den and Burial at Sea. The multiplayer component from BioShock 2 will not be included in this collection. It will include the challenge game modes from all three releases, and the Museum of Orphaned Concepts, a feature from an earlier collection in which the player views an in-game gallery of abandoned development concepts. BioShock Infinite is only remastered for the console releases. The collection adds a director’s commentary, “Imagining BioShock”, featuring the series’ creator director Ken Levine and lead artist Shawn Robertson. The remastered games all run in full 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second across all platforms. The retail release is spread across two discs.
BioShock 2 opens on New Year’s Eve 1958 (two years before the events of the first BioShock), as Subject Delta patrols Rapture with his Little Sister, Eleanor. Eleanor is separated from Delta by her mother, Sophia Lamb, who uses a mind control plasmid on Delta to make him shoot himself in the head.
Ten years later, Delta awakens, revived by Little Sisters under the control of Eleanor. Delta is drawn towards Eleanor by their past Big Daddy-Little Sister connection. The player controls Subject Delta, an alpha series Big Daddy, as you search to find Eleanor and uncover your past. In BioShock 2, much like BioShock, new details about the history of Rapture along with details on the past ten years are uncovered through audio diaries found throughout the city. Soon the player realizes that Sophia Lamb and her psychiatric ideology of the communal sharing of knowledge is taken to extremes resulting in the cult-like worship of the Little Sisters. In BioShock 2 the player must battle through new areas of the city and free Eleanor from the clutches of her mother, Sophia Lamb, before it is too late.
BioShock 2 was released on February 9, 2010. And was mainly developed by 2K Marin, with 2K Australia, Arkane Studios, and Digital Extremes providing additional support. 2K Boston, formerly Irrational Games, also assisted the game’s development, with series creator Ken Levine providing input. The game received critical acclaim upon release, with praise particularly directed at the game’s narrative, art-style, characters, ending and gameplay. The game sold more than 3 million copies, but did not meet Take-Two Interactive’s sales expectations.
