Call of Juarez: Broken HRTF with OpenAL API
In what must be the most bizarre HRTF-related glitch I've heard yet, the 2006 game "Call of Juarez" has a severe issue with its 3D positional audio. When the game is set to "DirectX" for DirectSound3D, the game will play 3D sound perfectly fine. However, when the game is set to OpenAL, sounds in front of the player will sound like they're behind them and vice-versa.
What's even stranger is that this problem also transfers to OpenAL Soft. Simply replacing the OpenAL32.dll with a renamed soft_oal.dll and forcing EAX off will cause the same problem as CMSS-3D. You have to use DSOAL and set the game to "DirectX" sound in order to get the correct HRTF in OpenAL Soft.
