In this video we take a deep dive into Borderlands 3’s Monetization and find out how it impacted players perception of the game for better or for worse. This review focuses on the impact of monetization on gameplay, the pricing and the monetization tactics present within the game.

***NOTE: This is NOT a review; this is a review of a game’s monetization. A game can be incredible but suffer from monetization problems or vice versa. The goal of this review is to evaluate the games monetization practices not to bash it and will take 3 major areas into account:

1 – Monetization’s impact on gameplay – In this section we’ll look at how and if the monetization practices impact a game’s core gameplay (not cosmetics) once you’ve purchased/downloaded it.
2 – Pricing – In this section we’ll look at the pricing of the game and any additional content/microtransactions. This section is more subjective as it’s hard determine the value of a game, as it can be different for everyone but to make it as fair as possible, we will try and compare and contrast to other games. Also, this section is based on regular prices so if you find a game on sale that could make the game more worth it for you.
3 – Monetization Tactics – In this section we’ll look at tactics and strategies games companies use to get you to spend more money. This category is broad and many items can be included but mostly we are looking at ways companies trick, manipulate or force you to spend money. An example of something else that may fall in this category is if a company mistreats their community.

I want to reiterate that I’m not trying to hate on games here, I’m trying to highlight problems or shitty things companies do that are related to monetization that make the expertise worse for players. A game may be a 10/10 gameplay wise but has monetization problems, I’ll leave it up to traditional reviewers to talk about the game as a piece of art.
