(CCPlays) 1984 Soviet Campaign | Part 31: Chasing Convoy | Cold Waters DotMOD
Previously, in the 1984 Soviet Campaign of Cold Waters... We expended all torpedoes and sank most of a NATO convoy. We went back to Murmansk to reload.

Welcome to Captain Chang Plays (CCP) Cold Waters. We are playing the 1984 Soviet Campaign at reduced difficulty.

25-OCT-1984 Just north of Murmansk, USSR
We left Murmansk on another patrol, having reloaded all torpedoes.
Our current mission is free-roam, where we can choose our own patrol area. I was going to choose Norwegian coast, but I decided to go big, and hit the North Atlantic instead.
But first we have to make it through the GIUK gap.
26-OCT-1984 GIUK gap (Northern)
We were intercepted by an ASW patrol. As I have no intention of engaging them, we turned 180 and sped out of there at 30 kts. It was 3 (or more) escorts with at least two helos dipping. We disengaged when we got far enough.
We made it through the gap and setup on the ship lanes from the US.
01-NOV-1984 North Atlantic
We intercepted a convoy and dodged the ASW group that just preceded it.
The surface conditions are abysmal, and the sonar performance was severely degraded. Nonetheless, we can tell there are at least four escorts up there: A Knox, a Perry, a Type 42, and a Spruance. However, the cargo ships are nowhere to be heard. The ONLY ships I can hear on sonar are the escorts, PERIOD.
Over the next hour, I managed to sink 3 out of 4 escorts, but and went to periscope depth to find the freighters, but found nothing. I have no target to pursue and was forced to disengage.
And the war continues in the next episode.
