The Journal screen is messed up in 16:10 and 16:9 resolutions, here's a workaround to fix that: you can set the game to windowed mode by pressing Alt-Enter. The default windowed resolution is 800x600 so this way you'll be able to read the Journal entries without changing the fullscreen resolution. The default 800x600 windowed resolution can be modified in System.ini which comes in handy if using 800x600 would result in a tiny image. You can switch back to fullscreen by pressing Alt-Enter again btw.
