Cycling to The Chained Oak - The Tree Featured in Hex at Alton Towers!
The UK is still under lock down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however leaving your home for exercise is still permitted. As I live close to The Chained Oak & Alton Towers, the roads leading up to the resort are the perfect place for a relaxing ride through the Staffordshire countryside. By travelling this route, it's also very easy to remain more than 2 metres away from everyone, something that must be followed to maintain social distancing.
In this video I take you along a disused railway line from Denstone through to Alton, close to Alton Towers. Along with explaining a brief history of the Churnet Valley Line I also take you up to the legendary Chained Oak tree! The tree was covered in chains back in the 1840's and they still remain on the old oak tree to this day. In the year 2000, Alton Towers opened a ride called Hex - The Legend Of The Towers that was based on the tree and the legend surrounding it. In this video I take you for a closer look at the tree including talking more about the legend!
