In Dead Cells, you play an undead, trying desperately to escape the island you're trapped on.
Gameplay features are a mix of rogue-like and metrovania game styles (a 'RogueVania' as the developers call it) Which allows for a non-linear progression through the game.
Each run begins the trials anew, as you fight you way to the next area. Everything changes once your start over though, as which weapons you wield, and what the terrain looks like, will always be different.
But permanent upgrades exist as well, allowing you to unlock new destinations and routes in your ever changing dungeon-crawl.
No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat.
