Destiny 2 is an online-only FPS developed by Bungie and published by Activision in September 2017 for consoles and October 2017 for PC, now published solely by Bungie as of January 2019. This game takes place after the events of the first game and its expansions and provides new areas for guardians to explore, including the European Dead Zone; Nessus, an unstable centaur; the Dreaming City, the Awoken homeland; returning as of Shadowkeep, Earth's moon which has changed since we last visited it; Europa, a moon of Jupiter; Savathûn's Throne World; and Neomuna, a city on Neptune that's stayed hidden since the first collapse. Also, a part of the Cosmodrome is back as of Beyond Light. The fourth expansion, Shadowkeep, sees the return of Eris Morn as she and the player work together to stop Nightmares that she released into the system. The fifth expansion, Beyond Light, tasks Guardians with bringing down the empire leaded by Eramis, the Fallen Kell of Darkness, at any cost, even wielding the darkness itself. The sixth expansion, Witch Queen, tasks Guardians with uncovering how Savathûn took the light and stopping her from taking the Traveler too. The seventh expansion, Lightfall, is a race to secure the Veil before the Witness and Calus do by mastering Strand, another Darkness power that we discover in Neomuna on Neptune.
The year 1 and 2 campaigns (Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken) as well as Io, Titan, Mercury, Mars, the Leviathan, the Tangled Shore and the year 2 seasonal activities have been placed in the Destiny Content Vault and are no longer available to access. Most of the exotics obtained from these destinations can be obtained from the Monument to Lost Lights Exotic Archive.
Just like the first Destiny, there is a lot of gear for guardians to collect. Also like the past game, there are three classes of guardian each with three subclasses, and three races to choose from: Human, Awoken, and Exo. Each class also receives a new subclass in this game: Titan Sentinel, replacing Defender; Warlock Dawnblade, replacing Sunsinger; and Hunter Arcstrider, replacing Bladedancer. As of Beyond Light, each class has a new subclass under the new element, Stasis: Warlock Shadebinder, Hunter Revenant and Titan Behemoth, and as of Lightfall, there is a new darkness power, Strand, that brings its own subclasses as well: Warlock Broodweaver, Hunter Threadrunner and Titan Berserker. Destiny 2 is available now for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC through Steam, the Microsoft Store and Epic starting at $99.99 for the Lightfall + Annual Pass version, which includes the season 21 and 23 dungeons, Quicksilver Storm's catalyst and an ornament, and season passes for the whole year; and $49.99 for Lightfall and Season of Defiance only.
