Does Zelda 2 Suck?
42Does Zelda 2 suck? The chilling answer may shock and disturb you! You may find yourself poopin' your pants! Or you might just chuckle silently as you watch. Nobody'll know you're chuckling except me!
Zelda II - the Adventure of Link is unlike any other Zelda game. It features side-scrolling dungeons with and overworld that just exists to git places. Randomish encounters a la Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior bring players out of their travels and into platforming action.
But does Zelda 2 suck? Well... I don't think so. Zelda II is different, for sure. And it deviates quite far from the now-accepted top-down play style we've all come to associate with the franchise. But remember: when Zelda 2 came out, there was only one other Zelda game. And it wasn't all that great. Ignore the hype nerds, the Legend of Zelda (the first one) is pretty good, and it certainly set the agenda for the franchise, but it's not all that great. It's fraught with cryptic puzzles, mediocre graphics and a severe lack of depth. My opinion, of course.
Zelda set a precedent, Zelda II added some depth, and A Link to the Past knocked the franchise into hyper drive. But to answer the original question? Zelda 2 doesn't suck. But why are you reading this? Play the video!!
