Well, I don't think I really need to introduce Doom,of all things. This will be one of the biggest games I highlight on this stream. I'm doing so because this is a game on the current Steam Summer sale for $5, a good deal on it. I figured I might as well promote some of the games that are currently cheap.

So, Doom 3. The unfortunate black sheep of the series. Whereas Doom 1 was revolutionary, Doom 2 took the first game and churned out a quick, but upgraded, sequel, it took nearly a full decade before we got another one. (And then it took over a decade to get another after that.) Not because Id wasn't doing anything, they were doing the Quake line, so I can't fault them for it.

However, unlike the previous games, Doom 3 is a product of its time, and borrows elements from so many games before it. You can see the influences and finger prints all over this game. Half-Life, Unreal, System Shock 2, F.E.A.R, this game has the unfortunate feeling of trying to stand on the shoulders of giants. It did do a good job of keeping a lot of elements of Doom, the weapons, the enemies, the imagery, the lore, but the main thing that made Doom Doom was the feeling. And this game unfortunately did not have it. This game is a small, claustrophobic game that personified "corridor shooter". -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
