DUNGEON CRAWL STONE SOUP in 2020 v25: Beginner Ranger Guide Episode 3 [Barachi Hunter]
6Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is alive and well in 2020! In this DCSS Beginner's Guide to a Ranger, I explain the strategies for getting a ranged attacker-type character off the ground.
Rangers play much differently than melee characters but are not--at least in my mind--quite as difficult to understand as a caster. However, they still take some getting used to and this guide is meant to help you understand some core principles of being a ranger in DCSS (at least as I see them) and specifically how to use the new species: the Barachi.
Barachi are frog-human hybrids that can jump in the game, giving them a super powerful semi-controlled Blink from turn 1, but they move slowly and require some adjustment to a normal movespeed species.
We are going to use the Hunter background because it gives us a ranged weapon of our choice from the outset. In this build, I am going to be using bows, because arrows are generally more plentiful than crossbow bolts and longbows are considered by many to be the most powerful weapons in the game.
If you want to learn how to rain down death on your enemies from afar, and even leap past greater demons to steal their runes--this is the series for you!

This run uses a crossbow and is not specifically made for new players, but it shows off all of the extended runes--and even features some early deaths as I learn the build for the first time myself ;D
I hope you find this guide useful! It is not for complete newbies to the game (I have a separate DCSS Newbie Guide on the channel for that ;) ) but it is made with new ranger players in mind.
