This is part 1 of my capture of me playing through the career mode of F1 2011 for the 3DS. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my New 3DS XL using the aftermarket capture kit manufactured by Katsukity and installed/sold by Merki. I’m playing on advanced difficulty.

Shortly after I picked up my 3DS in early 2011 I started looking for some racing titles because the Wii and the DS had both generally been lacking in that genre. I also felt that the 3DS was a good fit for racing games due to the wide upper screen and the circle pad, in addition to the 3D effects.

In November of that year, Codemasters then released F1 2011 for the HD consoles, the Vita, and even the 3DS. I had never purchased or played an F1 game before, but I thought it would be fun to try. Initially, I was just going to ask for the 3DS version of F1 2011 for Christmas, but Best Buy quickly placed the game on sale for only $20, so I just bought the game myself before the holiday.

I could tell just by looking at Youtube footage that the 3DS version was a bit different from the HD console versions, especially in terms of graphics, but the most notable difference seemed to be the manic AI that crashed into everything. Plenty of reviewers noted the same issue. I also noticed that the 3D effects had a terrible ghosting effect to them, so I quickly stopped using the 3D in this game.

Although this game has some AI issues, it is fun overall. When I picked up the game roughly nine years ago, I played through a full season of the career mode and then stopped. I didn’t really see any point in playing the other modes or completing another season. But the game was worth the mere $20 I paid. It also has surprisingly good menu screen music.

For this playthrough I’ll be completing an entire season of the career mode on advanced difficulty, which is actually the intermediate difficulty level. I’m not using any braking or steering assists, but I am using an automatic transmission and the driving line.

This game is more of a simulation-style racer, so it has qualifying races before the main event to determine each racer’s starting position. Due to these qualifying races, I will be including time stamps in each video so you can skip directly to specific qualifying sessions and the main race. Enjoy.

In this first part I started a new career save file, completed a test session to join Team Lotus, and completed three qualifying sessions and the main race for Melbourne, Australia.

Silverstone, Britain:

Team Lotus test session - 2:40

Melbourne, Australia:

Qualifying session 1 - 7:30
Qualifying session 2 - 13:32
Qualifying session 3 - 17:49
Race - 20:12

Recorded with OBS Studio. I’m using a New 3DS XL.
