Fatal Fury: First Contact Game Sample - NeoGeo Pocket Color
Original Air Date: June 25th, 2009 (Revised Today!!)
Fatal Fury: First Contact is a fighting game which is part of the "Fatal Fury" series, developed and published by SNK in 1999. It's one of the worst fighting games on the NGP/NGPC handheld, which is saying a lot because it's still a pretty fun (though basic) fighting game. The game features nice 2D graphics and SD characters very reminiscent to other games on the system and decent audio (a little slower on an emulator, though it's graphically sound) with a fair roster of characters, featuring a little over a dozen playable characters (mostly series favorites).
The fighting system allows for basic combos to be stringed together as well as counters, breakshots, hyper attacks, super moves, and "potential" moves (more powerful supers when the special gauge is full and health falls below fifty percent), which allows for pretty competitive fighting. Some characters' moves also get different characteristics when a character attains a certain level of power (whether it's H, S, or P) and this is something to keep in mind if you've practiced basic combinations. Like many NGP/NGPC fighters, you have light and fierce attacks which are accessed by either tapping attack buttons (light) or holding them (fierce). The game's weakest characteristic is that it is very lacking in modes, extras, or easter eggs compared to other NGP(C) fighters and has a smaller roster of playable characters than nearly any other fighter on the handheld well. Still, if you're itching for another portable fighter, you can do much worse; after all, SNK is "only" one of the greatest 2D fighting game developers in existence. This is a video of the game in action revised at higher quality. Enjoy.
