In Gears of War: Judgment, Lambent humans, also known as Formers, were created due to prolonged exposure to Imulsion12. Imulsion is a parasitic, mutagenic substance that, when humans are exposed to it over time, causes severe mutations. These mutations transform the infected individuals into mindless, aggressive creatures with glowing veins and necrotic skin.
During the Lambent Pandemic, cities with major Imulsion refineries, such as Halvo Bay, were among the first to see their citizens turn into Lambent humans. This transformation process is depicted in the “Aftermath” section of the game, where characters encounter these mutated humans while navigating through the ruined city.
