Generations for Quake II: An Overview
Before there was Generations Arena, there was Generations, a Quake II mod which brought Woflenstein 3D, Doom 2 and Quake together into one game.
These four games could fight each other in deathmatch, as well as take on their individual single player campaigns. The Doom Guy could use a BFG 9000 on a Shambler. The Quake Guy could electrocute Nazis. The Quake II Guy could use a Rail Gun on the Cyber Demon. And the hero of Wolf3D could use a Flame Thrower on a Tank Commander. And so on and so forth.
The mod made use of graphics, sound effects and models (where applicable) from the original games to make each "class" an authentic experience. Unfortunately, it is because of this that the mod's development was abruptly ended. ID Software, once aware of the project's true nature, claimed copyright infringement and intellectual property theft. The mod was essentially illegal, which lead to the development team shutting the project down.
As such, Generations for Quake 2 is no longer publicly available.
However, its spirit lives on in Generations Arena for Quake 3. For more information about THAT mod (and to download the latest release) visit the following link: http://www.wireheadstudios.org/generations
