Ghost of Tsushima - The Heavenly Strike
Ghost of Tsushima - The Heavenly Strike
Jin encountered a peasant who informed him that the musician, Yamato, had shared a tale at Komatsu Forge about the myth of the Heavenly Strike. However, when Jin finally met Yamato, he found the bard surrounded by dead bodies. Yamato explained that a fearsome warrior had demanded to know the tale and killed innocent bystanders when Yamato couldn't provide the answers sought by the warrior. Jin, determined to uncover the warrior's intentions, asked Yamato to share the tale with him.
According to Yamato, when Tsushima was first settled, a strange and terrible thunderstorm swept across the island. Each time lightning struck, beasts of lightning appeared, wreaking havoc on the villages and causing death and destruction. These lightning creatures moved too quickly to be stopped. The people of Tsushima knew of only one man who could potentially stand against these lightning beasts - Shigenori, renowned as the fastest swordsman on the island.
Shigenori, who had never lost a duel, developed a technique known as the Heavenly Strike through years of practice. This attack was so swift that it surpassed the eye's ability to follow. Shigenori devised a plan to lure the lightning creatures to a desolate beach in Komatsu, where the sand would impede their movements. The clash between Shigenori and the lightning beasts turned the sand to ash and bleached the leaves of nearby trees white. Shigenori's Heavenly Strike cut through the creatures faster than they could react. As the final beast fell, the storm cleared, and Tsushima was once again safe.
After this victorious battle, Shigenori chose a life of seclusion. Only a few fortunate students were able to find him, and only the bravest and most skilled among them proved worthy of learning the Heavenly Strike technique. Whenever a storm approached, a student who knew the location would place a sword at Shigenori's Rest to protect against potential attacks from these lightning beasts.
With the knowledge of this tale, Jin embarked on a mission to track down the murderer, a man named Yasuhira. Yasuhira had once been a retainer for Clan Yarikawa, but after their rebellion was crushed, the clan was dissolved, and the retainers were dismissed. He had left Tsushima but returned after the Mongol invasion, working with the enemy.
Jin eventually discovered Yasuhira's lodgings at a watchtower, where he found documents that revealed Yasuhira's obsession with Shigenori. The documents led Jin to a white-leafed tree located next to the Plum Blossom Shrine at Shigenori's Peak. Following this trail, Jin surveyed Shigenori's Rest below, where the legendary swordsman was buried near an old dueling ring.
It was at Shigenori's Rest that Jin finally confronted Yasuhira. Yasuhira confessed that revenge had been his sole motivation for the past 15 years since the rebellion, expressing his burning desire to strike Lord Shimura down to the bone. Jin and Yasuhira engaged in a fierce duel, during which Yasuhira utilized the Heavenly Strike technique against Jin. However, in a surprising turn of events, Yasuhira unintentionally taught Jin the technique, and Jin managed to counter his opponent with the same move.
Thus, Jin acquired the Heavenly Strike technique and sought to use it against the Mongol invaders and any other threats that endangered Tsushima.
