Golden Sun: The Lost Age was released for the Gameboy Advance on June 28 2002 in Japan, April 14 2003 in North America, and September 19 2003 in Europe. Its music was composed by Motoi Sakuraba.

Izumo is a pretty cool place. When you first arrive, you discover the town is under the subjugation of a great serpent, and eventually find your way to defeating the serpent for your own purposes, thus saving the town. As far as I know, this is based loosely on traditional Japanese folklore, and the music certainly seems to be based on Japanese themes as well. The first theme you hear is fantastic mood setting, setting up both the mystery and the depression enveloping the town. The second theme occurs while climbing Gaia Rock - I have no doubt players noticed the similarities between the two, but perhaps you didn't notice *just* how similar they are.

I wanted to put these songs together, but figured it wouldn't be complete if I didn't put in Izumo's Festival following the defeat of the Serpent as well. One thing I enjoy when listening back to this recording is the rather imperfect/inconsistent clarity in the final melody - while not intentional, I found it gave the tune a real sense of humanity that I think effectively captured the raw experience of being saved from forced sacrifice.

One day, maybe I'll even learn how to properly edit a video.

Yes, that is just a pile of wood. This isn't me being cheeky and making music "out of anything." Pressure treated wood was the right sound.
