The sea forts of the Solent are getting a makeover, to ensure their survival. The forts were built in the 1880s to guard Portsmouth from potential invasion, but have had a troubled history. By the time they were finished, they were obsolete, and since disposal by the MOD in 1982, there have been several, mostly unsuccessful, attempts to re-use the unique structures Now, three of them have been bought and transformation work has begun.
