How to manually re-focus the lens on your Yi 4K+ action camera - after lens hack

Some time ago I removed the lens on my Yi 4K+ after I done a lens hack on it. The idea was so that I could do manual focusing on the lens for various shooting distances, close for macro, a bit further away for vlogging and then the best position for infinite focus for wide shots .

This is the method that I come up for marking the lens to re-focus it and to set my various manual focus points and marks.

For this method the barrel has to be attached to the lens. I did this by gluing the lens barrel to the rubber o-ring gasket that usually fits between the lens and the outside barrel then gluing the rubber o-ring to the lens.

The method should be good for anyone else who has done a lens hack on their Yi action camera where they completely snap or cut off the lens barrel. As well as working for the Yi 4K & Yi Lite, this method of manual focus should also work for many other action cameras that have a round lens barrel that can be removed, such as early GoPro action cameras.

Although the hacking and cutting off of my lens barrel to get access to the lens was very deliberate. This method may also work in instance where you've damaged your action camera lens and have had to get a replacement lens.

Even if this whole method isn't exactly right for you, hopefully there are parts of this guide that will help you to re-focus or manually focus the lens on your action camera.
