This command tutorial shows how you can summon meteorites in minecraft 1.9.4, and 1.10+. If you didn't catch the commands in the video here they are (if you have any questions i will be glad to answer!):

Spawner:
/setblock ~ ~1 ~ minecraft:mob_spawner 0 replace {SpawnData:{id:"FallingSand",Motion:[0.4,-0.5,0.0],Block:netherrack,Data:0,Time:1,DropItem:0,FallHurtMax:100,FallHurtAmount:1},SpawnCount:1,SpawnRange:10,RequiredPlayerRange:500,Delay:20,MinSpawnDelay:40,MaxSpawnDelay:100,MaxNearbyEntities:500}

Particle:
/execute @e[type=FallingSand] ~ ~ ~ particle flame ~ ~ ~ 1 1 1 100 10

Explosion (You may have to change the -1.5 to -0.5 if it is too low):
/execute @e[type=FallingSand] ~ ~ ~ detect ~ ~-1.5 ~ (the block you want) 0 summon PrimedTnt ~ ~ ~
