How to test a power supply breakout
We made a breakout for a 3.3V 2A+ buck converter. But how do you know how much current you can draw? We have a nice setup with a power supply that provides the 5V input voltage/current. Then a programmable load that we can dial up slowly from 0 Amps up to 3 Amps. Then we watch the output on our scope. It's a lot of equipment but we can quickly see what current draw causes the converter to collapse. Note that we didn't have the right resistor for 3.3V out so its 3.1V out instead, our cables aren't super thick so there's a bit of droop, and these protos use 1 oz copper whereas the final will have 2 oz - so this is a 'low bar' analysis just to get an idea if our layout is good enough to continue with the design!
