iPhones already had this "feature" before the iOS4 update was released, but iOS4 hides it even deeper. Touching the keypad option on the call screen for several seconds will cause the keypad menu to activate in a special way. On iPhone OS 3.x, you would see a "Send" button above the keypad. After the iOS4 update, it seemed to be missing. However, tapping above the keypad FOUR TIMES will cause the "Send" button to appear.

The menu doesn't seem to have any practical purpose. You can dial a number and tap the Send button to add a call...same as if you tapped "Add" and used the keypad there, except this way the person you're connected to can hear you dialing. This *might* be useful if you need to have someone recording the audio of the number you dialed for documentation purposes. Because Apple deemed it necessary to keep the hidden menu, but went through extra effort to hide the Send button, I think there may be some other function/purpose I haven't discovered. If there is no purpose, why wasn't it removed entirely? Instead, they just hid it even deeper.

If you have some idea why this exists, please leave a comment or send me a message!

EDIT - still happens in iOS 13.
