"Jazzy NYC '99" (Street Fighter III: Third Strike) LIVE Jazz Cover // J-MUSIC Pocket Band
Our live cover of "Jazzy NYC '99 (Alex and Ken's Stage)" from Street Fighter III: Third Strike, originally composed by Hideki Okugawa. This arrangement by Patrick Bartley (ending inspired from Kyle Athayde). Recorded live at Black Cat LES in New York, NY on December 1, 2019.
There is not one song we can imagine that evokes the true combined spirit and hype of high level jazz and fighting game playing quite like "Jazzy NYC '99". NOT. ONE. SONG. Every time you hear this song, you know EXACTLY what time it is. We have to thank Kyle Athayde (dizzkidboogie in Smash Bros. Melee) for bringing his own arrangement of this song back in the original days of the J-MUSIC Ensemble in 2013. Not only is this game one of the most stylish and vibe-heavy fighting games of all time, but this song that's supposed to represent the US has the words "jazz" and "NYC" in it - so you KNOW we had to bring the TRUE flavor to it! This is how we do it in New York, and Hideki-san knew exactly what he was doing with this accurate sonic depiction of the "aggressive finesse" attitude of expressing yourself in the city. We think this track, as with all the others we played in this session, is perfect how it is, so all we did is lay down the parts, throw in some solos - a la Pat, Max, and Joe - and locked in the groove all day long. So tilt your snapback caps, hop on the subway, and take a trip down to NYC with us to relive this immortal classic that forever captures the hearts of the FGC!
