L.A. Blaster (1996) - PC Futuristic Racing Games
L.A. Blaster by Cryo / CDV Software, 1996.
In-between Megarace titles, Cryo churned out this overly-ambitious full-motion video car shooting game, where you race a selection of sports cars around various near-future LA locations, shooting everything. It's also highly surreal, with enemies including bikini-clad girls on floating American flags, and bad guys including a guy playing guitar on a gold CD-R!
Unfortunately, unlike the Megarace games, the framerate is choppy, animation is jumpy, there's a lot of vsync tearing (I tried dialling it out in various versions of DOSBox to no avail) and you're killed way too easily (even on Easy mode). So here I employed some of the cheats (God mode and endless credits) to show the second part of each of the first 3 levels, plus 3 crazy boss fights. See https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/647506-la-blaster/cheats for more cheats (there's a flamethrower that will destroy everything, for instance).
Overall, grand in scope, but poor in execution. A rare game, but rare for the wrong reasons!
