Herman’s pawn shop rewards players who’ve held on to items they got in Limbo and the return journey to the Isle of Cats, as well as collecting a random assortment of items you can get in Kyrandia. He’ll offer to sell one item for a gem – though at the time of this video I didn’t realize he wanted a gem for the item he’s selling – and he’ll offer to buy any number of one item each time you visit him. If this was used as a method to more quickly get items you need to finish the puzzles at this point, that’d be a nice touch but it’s not. Unfortunately, trading with Herman is required as he’s the only source of an item that was readily available in infinite quantity at the beginning of the game, sesame seeds. We need sesame seeds to complete and the game and we need a few of them, which means potentially spending a lot of time going in and out of that shop hoping that Herman wants to buy what you have. It's a sort of trading for profit.
