A full blind playthrough of Octopath Traveler, filled with unedited gameplay and commentary. I'll be your guide, and across this makeshift walkthrough we shall complete the full game from start to finish. So join me as we playthrough this modern take on a classic RPG style. Let's play Octopath Traveler for PC.

Welcome to Octopath Traveller, a modern take on the RPGs of yesteryear. This game looks absolutely stunning, combining a graphical approach reminiscent of SNES Final Fantasy games with a veneer of modern effects to accentuate and enhance them all. Gorgeous spritework is paired with dynamic lights and shadows in a high resolution that makes this old graphics style look better than you ever thought possible. It's so simple, but it's so, damn, good.

Octopath Traveler is a turn based RPG, a personal favourite genre of mine as it leaves more room for tactical decision making. Slowly gauging turn order, performing less impactful actions that allow you to act sooner as a result etc. It brings in a puzzle element ontop of the usual RPG formula, and I for one am grateful. It doesn't stop there however, Octopath introduces a wide variety of battle mechanics, the variety of which I have not witnessed in a long, long time (FF6 comes to mind).

A boosting system lets the user decide when each character should enhance their attacks to strike multiple times, empower magical ability, lengthen buff durations and exploit enemy weaknesses. With the game's wide range of abilities it's a fantastic addition alone, but it gets better. Octopath Traveller makes use of a vulnerability system, wherein the player may exploit an enemy's weakness (fire vs an ice monster, for example) repeatedly in order to stagger their opponent. The minigame of breaking opponents defences, thereby leaving them vulnerable, just before they unleash a powerful attack is key to victory, as doing so will interrupt their ability altogether. There are so many options, so many variables in each encounter, and the game continually throws new challenges and improvements at you throughout. The battle mechanics of this game are simply phenomenal.

It's not just the battle system we need to praise however. Octopath Traveller boasts a wide range of 8 main characters. H'aanit, Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn and Therion each have their own motivations and stories to uncover, as well as a wide range of character specific abilities to make use of both on and off the battlefield. For example, Therion, the thief, might solve a particular problem by stealing necessary proof from the locals in town, whereas Cyrus, the scholar, might be able to force the information out of them using his scrutinize ability.

They're an interesting bunch with differing opinions and life experiences, taken through adventures that are sometimes epic and sometimes more mature. Morals and ethics exist to be explored, and these characters feel complete and fleshed out both in their own story-arcs but also during friendly banter amongst the team.

Ontop of this, I shall be playing through the game completely blind. This will be a longplay of the entire game where we can discover the plot and mysteries together. I may miss things, I may struggle due to not understanding the mechanics, but at the end of the day that's half the fun of it all. Let's explore this world together. Join me, we shall experience, we shall learn, and we shall love Octopath Traveler.

On this channel I make a variety of gaming content. Sometimes we're reviewing up and coming indie games, sometimes we're revisiting retro classics for a Let's Play. The only consistent factor is that it's all gaming, and it's all accompanied by sarcastic commentary. If that's your thing then I have links:

I always try to be as fair and objective as possible when making my review videos, giving some honest feedback and a bit of criticsm here and there. Remember that games these days are always subject to change so many of the things mentioned here may no longer be true depending on how old this video is.

Please leave a comment if you have any questions about this video, or suggestions for future videos. I'm always open to hearing what you guys have to say.

Thanks again for watching and please, enjoy.
