StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is the 2010 sequel to StarCraft and its expansion pack Brood War. It was developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment for Windows and Mac.
The game takes place four years after StarCraft: Brood War and tells the story of Jim Rayoner and his fight against The Terran Dominion led by Emperor Mengsk, the Zerg Swarm led by Sarah Kerrigan, as well as hostile Protoss subfactions.
Wings of Liberty was the first of three main StarCraft II releases, with the 2013 and 2015 expansions, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void, updating the game and adding singleplayer campaigns for the Zerg and Protoss.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty features a different balance for single- and multiplayer, as well as numerous units that are only available in singleplayer missions. Furthermore, the player can complete secondary objectives and mission to gain access to new units and structures, and unique upgrades.
The game was well-received and a commercial success. StarCraft, StarCraft II, and their respective expansions sold more than 17 million copies by 2015, and generated more than a billion dollars in revenue over their lifetime.
Like its predecessors, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is played professionally, especially in South Korea.
