A video that explains the basic high & long jump tactics in Matterfall.

Your movement options are normally pretty limited in this game. You have a double jump plus you can do a single dash (actual in-game name is "strike") while you're in air. So, how to make the most out of these three actions?

0:15 - technique: half-dash.

If you start your jump combo from an upwards ground dash which you interrupt close to the start, you are able to still use your double jump in air plus then use another dash after the cooldown, thus giving you slightly greater height than just normal double jump and a dash.

This works in long jumps too (as seen in the last clip on this video). If you do a horizontal dash off a platform but interrupt it before it ends, you get to use both double jump and one extra dash for long jumps.

0:29 - technique: gun recoil.

If you use either shotgun or railgun right after your jump while aiming down, you get a massive momentum boost. This alone effectively doubles your jump height. By aiming sideways you can give yourself a horizontal boost instead.

Shotgun gives more recoil and is thus far more effective of the two weapons. But for best height, you want to use both of the weapons during a single high jump - one momentum boost for each of your jumps.

So far, it hasn't been possible to go fully out of bounds using the high jump. Most areas in this game are either boxed in or have so high walls that even this jump height doesn't cut it. Maybe some day...
