Momodora: Reverie Under The Moonlight Boss #06 Heretical Arsonist (No Damage)
Difficulty Played: Hard (Don't have Insane unlocked on PC)
So, this game is pretty hard when comparing it to other similar titles. It's meant to be unforgiving and force you to learn from your mistakes. You die 20+ times on a boss? Well, it's usually your fault. Learn the patterns, etc.
The only difference in difficulty is your health bar that I've noticed. And, well, more common enemy spawn locations. You do the same amount of damage across difficulties. On Easy it's massive, Normal is more standard size, on Hard, well, you see what it is. On "Insane" it's a little less, almost a sliver. It doesn't matter though, outside of Easy, bosses will kill you in 2-3 hits, except Insane, which is 1 hit kills, pretty much, even with Health Upgrades.
So, why no damage runs on bosses? If you beat a boss without taking damage, they'll drop a special item that usually can't be obtained elsewhere. Or if it can, it costs too much munny.
Something to note, is the game doesn't just register boss damage. There are items you can get later, that take health away to strengthen your attacks. Do NOT use this during the fight, as they count as taking damage and will forfeit your item. Use them before fight triggers.
Anyway, onto the boss. You face this boss in the Cinder Chambers. And, you get a little help from Kath, the knight. Though, she's only there mostly as a distraction.
So, what are her attacks?
She has a fire whip attack for short-to-mid range attacking
She will throw out purple fireballs that bounce around and then fade out
She will throw out quicker orange fireballs that can go the entire boss arena length
She can teleport to a location and erupt in a pillar of fire
One of her attacks leaves behind a fire trail on the ground. Careful of that.
Beware the marked red barrels in the arena. They'll explode when hit.
So, Hertical Arsonist has her name for a reason. Can you guess why? Haha. Kath will provide a bit of a distraction but in my experience, the Arsonist will still aggro onto Kaho most of the time. Anyway, to explain that high burst of damage at the start of the fight. I have Necklace of Sacrifice, which increases Kaho's attack by 100% when on low health, on top of the Tainted Missive, which when used, drains health and boosts attack by 100% so at the start of any given fight from here on out temporarily, I can have 200% attack damage for a brief time before it drops to 100% I think getting to the boss took longer than actually fighting her?
For doing no damage, she drops the Pocket Incensory, which when equipped as an accessory, adds flame to your attacks, both bow and melee, as well as active items like Bakman's Patch. Now, the flame doesn't burn enemies, since there is no real elemental play in the game, though, it does increase attack ever so slightly and stuns/knock backs common enemies, making it really useful as you can just stun lock enemies until they are dead. We also get the last crest (which allows Kaho to dash in the air) and thus, opens our path to the castle.
