Pokemon Shining Pearl— TWINKLING STAR RIBBON.
I am unable to show my entire gameplay of Shining Contest Master Rank. I only own a portable Switch console and the maximum video recording time are 30 seconds. What a pity. I will try to provide a detailed explanation below instead.
I used Milotic throughout all of my contests in Pokemon Shining Pearl version. Feebas can be caught inside of MT Coronet, using a super rod. Ideally, I started off with a quiet nature Feebas which likes dry food. This essential for evolving Feebas into Milotic provided that you maximised it’s beauty with dry poffins — Chesto, Oran, Wiki, Kelpsy, Pamtre, Charti and Micle. Pokemon natures that enjoy dry poffins are Modest, Mild, Quiet and Rash (+special attack natures).
As you can see in my trainer card, I only completed 4 poffin sessions. Poffins can be created only at HEARTHOME CITY. Make sure you save before you attempt making poffins and save afterwards when you are happy with your own results. Also, you must use different berries each time to make a poffin since using duplicate berries will always result in FOUL POFFINS.
Session 1 and 2, I focused on maximising Feebas’s beauty by using four different aforementioned berries for dry poffins (I got level 30 something poffins). I also used the level 60 poffin which was given to me by default, along with the poffin case which you can obtain in Fan Club in HEARTHOME CITY. These berries were sufficient for attaining the maximised beauty level. Session 3 and 4, I focused on my Milotic’s coolness. Even though Milotic did not really enjoy spicy berries — Cheri, Leppa, Figy, Pinap, Pomeg, Tomato, and Nomel — the two poffins (level 26-30) nearly maximised Milotic’s coolness. After this ordeal, flew to PASTORIA CITY to obtain the RED SCARF (bolster coolness when equipped during contests) and BLUE SCARF (beauty). Next you also need to decorate your pokeball with stickers that correspond to the contests you are participating in. I only placed stickers on the front part of the pokeball. No stickers on the back.

Two main criteria will determine your pokemons’ success in contests such as group performance (point meter shown above during contests) and individual performance. Individual performance will be judged based on 3 criteria: visual, dance and move. Ball capsules and poffins determine your Pokemons’ visual appearance. I primarily focus on the Dance (pressing the buttons during contest) and visual criteria. The move criterion is the least concerning factor for me.
The group and individual performances are pre-requisite for entering Great, Ultra and Master contest ranks. Attaining the best individual performance at the end of any Master Rank contest, your pokemon will receive a Master Ribbon. For example, in my video I failed the group performance, but I still obtained the ‘TWINKLING STAR RIBBON’ because my individual performance was optimal or draw (two of the best contestants). Your Pokemon will not be awarded the Master Ribbon if you passed the group performance in Master Rank Contest, but failed the individual performance. I tested this in the Shining Master Rank Contest.
As shown in my video, I used my coolness ball capsule and equipped Milotic with a blue scarf. I mainly used Surf or Scald as my move for all contests, except for the Shining Contest Master Rank, I used coil instead.
Regarding the contest outfits, I normally select ‘contest outfit’, but I think you can pick any and it won’t matter. Good luck!
