All of the footage shown in this video is from haunted tours or during my wonderful times as a Pennhurstian. The most interesting times to film were during the nighttime tours ; ) I do not condone people showing up to the property outside of being in a tour or the haunted attraction. If you try to sneak onto the property, you will most certainly be caught and cops will be called. I've seen it happen.
I think it's important to remember what happened there. People always focus so much on what PENNHURST did but think about it. Pennhurst ran out of space and were short staffed because PEOPLE wanted to just leave their mentally/physically handicapped family members there. This wasn't ALWAYS the case but toward Pennhurst's end people were suffering. Deprived of even affection or attention. Pennhurst at one point was a thriving community! A school, a facility to help the handicapped. To help them get back on their feet or contribute to society. To give them a chance.
Pennhurst was only a shame because people didn't want to take responsibility for such a burden. It is hard I understand. But just look where it lead. No one should have to live like that. We are better than that I know it.
