According to IGN, "...while PlayStation All-Stars is clearly inspired by what Nintendo has done with its famous brawler, the comparisons end on the periphery. Smash Bros. is its own thing, its own unique take on heavily competitive, fun and accessible multiplayer madness. It totes a well-earned legacy because it’s a phenomenal series. PlayStation All-Stars, on the other hand, is a bona fide fighting game, and its maiden foray on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita attempts to carve out its own, more technical niche."

I'm not a native English speaker so I might be misinterpreting words here and there, but what I got out of IGN's description is that Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is similar to Smash Bros, with a few differences that make it stand out on its own. They used fancy-schmancy jargon to explain those differences, but basically the big difference is Smash Bros. is actually fun to play. Playstation All-Stars, not so much. Another difference is Playstation All-Stars took out health bars, and even the ability to damage your opponent. Instead, your every hit builds your super bar. Once your super bar is filled up, you can unleash a super and make your opponent disappear temporarily. Matches can only be won by making your opponent disappear more times than the others before the timer ends. It's a pretty wholesome game that features Kratos, DMC: Devil May Cry's Dante, and Fat Princess.
